Rear extension and loft conversion
A series of challenges had to be overcome to create this spacious and airy family home from a compact terraced house. The drop in level to the rear and an adjacent sewer were negotiated without compromising the interior space created. The new kitchen now opens into an enlarged family dining space with a utility and WC formed from part of the original kitchen.
To create the new bedroom and en-suite in the roof was also challenging as the initial sketch design showed very low headroom. Alternative proposals for removing the existing first floor ceilings were drawn up to accommodate a new floor. Although this seems an excessive option the resultant additional space more than justifies the decision.
