Rear & side extension
mill road, cardiff
A large wrap around extension to a 1920s house to create an additional bedroom with ensuite facilities, a new kitchen and family room.
Because of the complex geometry of the existing roof with multiple hips and valleys the extension was designed in a way that left the whole of the existing roof intact thus avoiding an awkward connection. The contemporary approach to the new work also creates a complementary addition that respects the particular form of the existing.
At the outset a decision was made to ensure full use was made of the south facing aspect of the rear of the house thus large areas of insulated glass are used to enable solar gains to warm the interior as well as providing excellent levels of daylight to the back of the existing house.
